Recently bought what was advertised as a brand new, unopened bluetooth speaker on メルカリ. Ran me about 2万. Shipping was quick and the product was well packaged. Was pretty psyched about it until I figured out it couldn't actually hold a charge, it would turn off immediately upon being disconnected from the charger. I refrained from rating the transaction and messaged the seller about it and they provided me with instructions on how to ship it back. I contacted メルカリ and they provided further instructions regarding the return. The package arrived last night and about 2 hours ago I received a message from the seller asking me if I've replaced his speaker, that the serial number is different and that if I don't contact him, he will be contacting his legal advisor and the police. I have replied to him respectfully denying his accusations and have subsequently contacted メルカリ with an update and a screenshot of our messages.
Not really sure what course of action I should take here. The transaction hasn't been rated but still susceptible to an auto completion if enough time passes. I'm wondering if he's bluffing about invoking law enforcement or legal counsel. But if he isn't, I don't think 2万 is ultimately worth any kind of tedious legal spat. Any advice would be much appreciated.
