Best Hakone Ryokan Recommendation(s)

Hi all,

We’ll be in Japan this November for our honeymoon and are spending 2 nights in Hakone. It will be our first time visiting Japan! We’re hoping to find the best adults-only (or very quiet) ryokan that offers:

  1. Private in-room onsen (ideally open-air)

  2. Traditional kaiseki dinner & breakfast

  3. Great views (mountain/river, etc.)

Our Budget is around $600–700 USD per night (flexible if it’s truly special).

Bonus for one that also has:

  • Easy access from Hakone-Yumoto or Gora (we’ll have the Hakone Freepass)
  • Private/romantic atmosphere, since it is our honeymoon after all : )

If anyone has personal recommendations, favorite ryokans, or booking tips (like whether to book directly vs. third-party sites like the bigger booking travel sites), we’d really appreciate your input.

P.S. We will also be hitting up Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, and Okinawa if you have other accommodation recommendations we’d love to hear them! We would also welcome any other general advice/recommendations.
