Do I need a Yunyu Kakunin-sho for my upcoming Japan trip?

I am traveling to Japan in 3 weeks and I started thinking about the medications that I need to bring on my carry on bag for my 10 day stay. I have all the original bottles/containers with the prescription labeled on the bottle, they're all prescribed to me, and I am only going to bring enough for the days that I'm in Japan.

I take the following medications and I'm not sure if any, or all, of them will require an application for import confirmation. What do y'all think?

  • Bupropion XL 150mg
  • Montelukast 10 mg
  • Azelastine Hydrochloride Nasal Spray
  • Pravastatin 20mg
  • Gabapentin 300mg
  • Hydroxyzine 10mg

  1. You need to check the appropriate websites

[Information for those who are bringing medicines for personal use into Japan](https://www.mhlw.go.jp/english/policy/health-medical/pharmaceuticals/01.html)

Follow the links in this page to the narcotics control department which has a pdf list of current medications needing prior authorization.

Just FYI my mom just had to go through this for some of her medications and it took about 3 weeks in total to get necessary documents from her doctor, application submitted, and approval from the agency.

  2. I took Gabapentin on my trip to Japan and didn’t need a Yunyu Kakunin-sho. I took the pills in their original containers with less than a month supply. I also took a dated not from my Dr. with all the medications that I use. I didn’t have any problems entering Japan. Of course you should double check and email the Ministry of Health to make sure the rules haven’t changed.
