I‘m planning to move in the next few months and while (for now) casually browsing for apartments I came across to what seems relatively new agencies, or at least I didn’t notice them the last time I moved.
They seem to be online-only, so no office to go to etc. which of course makes sense nowadays but also could invite scam etc.
Companies like:
– RoomPa
– Moovin Japan
Tried searching Reddit but didn’t find anything specific to them.
Anyone heard or used those before? Are they legit and trustworthy?
Or are the major websites suumo and homes and local offices still the way to go in 2025?

Moovin seems to be advertising a lot lately on IG. But I would rather use the safe ones (Suumo, エイブル, etc.)
Just to share a bit of context: Suumo and Homes are listing platforms where agents post properties, so you’ll often see the same apartment duplicated across different ads. Most rentals you find there are standard 2-year contracts with the usual upfront costs, and they all come from the same nationwide database.
If you’re not comfortable with the language, it’s usually better to work with a trustworthy English-speaking agent who can guide you through the process and handle the language barrier.
Moovin is spending a lot on advertising, I’d wager that you have seen their ads on instagram. Apart from that, I have never heard of them and I follow all the agencies gearing campaigns towards expats.
Definitely go with an established expat/foreigner focussed agency for smooth sailing, you won’t necessarily save money using a domestic focussed agency (which most of the suumo listings are).
