About Baito

Long story short, I’ll have an interview coming up for a baito, and this will be the first job interview I’ll have. Now I wanted to know if there’re any things I should preferably avoid doing during the interview? Next is that, if the worst were to happen, how can I know if I get rejected

  1. 1) show up on time
    2) dress appropriately/clean
    3) ask questions when prompted
    4) be friendly and show interest in the position

  2. First of all, baito interview is not the same as Japanese job interview so you dont have to worry too much. Im a Japanese whos current baito is a konbini, and i help my 店長 with interviewing foreigners. They will ask you
    1. your Japanese level
    2. how many days you can work in a day
    3. if there is any day in the week that you cant go to work
    4. how long are you planning to work
    5. expected monthly pay
    6. Its very rare for foreigners but just in case be prepared for 志望動機 question (they will probably ask this if they arent sure about your Japanese level)

Be honest for question 1, 2 and 3. For question 4 ALWAYS say you can work for more than a year. Some places wont hire people who can only work for 6 months or less than a year. Its not the appropriate thing to do but who cares since you can resign anytime you want anyways.

Things I’ve seen foreigners do during interview that gets them rejected on the spot
    1. Crossing their legs
    2. Crossing their arms
    3. Really poor Japanese
    4. Flashy hairstyle (afro, skinhead)

    Advice
    1. Show up 5 minutes before the scheduled time
    2. Dress neatly. You dont have to come in a suit.
    3. Never cut off the interviewer when they’re talking
