Getting over nervousness for a first timer

Hello. I'm thinking about taking a small trip to Japan (probably in the Winter), and I wanted to ask: as this is my first time traveling to Japan (and I would be alone), how do get over the nervousness of traveling to Japan (or perhaps, in general)? It's easy to make a (somewhat thought out) plan, relatively speaking, but when I think of traveling to the country, I can't help but worry about how I would behave as a foreigner (not knowing my way around, not comfortably fluent). It feels easy to make a faux paux, and the possible anxiety makes me feel that I'd spend most of the time in a hotel. On the other hand, I feel that if I worry too much about it, I'll never be ready to go. Any tips or such to overcome this "imposter syndrome" of sorts?
