A 21-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of breaking into a home in Edogawa Ward, Tokyo, and hitting two women with a hammer.

A 21-year-old man, Keito Dekura, was arrested for allegedly breaking into a home in Tokyo's Edogawa Ward and attacking two women with a hammer. Police announced the arrest on August 3.

According to the police, Dekura broke into the two-story house on July 30 and allegedly struck a woman in her 70s and a woman in her 50s in the head with a hammer, severely injuring both of them. He then reportedly demanded a credit card PIN from the younger woman.

A third woman, in her 20s, was on the second floor and called the police. A blood-stained hammer, believed to be the weapon, was found in a nearby park. Police identified Dekura using security camera footage. The women did not know Dekura, even though they had attended the same elementary and junior high schools.

Dekura denies the allegations, stating he has no memory of the crime.
