
In the early hours of August 2 in Obihiro City, Hokkaido, a woman in her 30s died after being restrained by police officers.
According to Hokkaido police, around 3:30 a.m., the woman was seen running around naked and shouting loudly in a residential area. When officers arrived, she reportedly ran toward them. Two male officers restrained her face-down on the street in an attempt to take her into protective custody.
Shortly after, she lost consciousness and was taken to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead around 9:30 a.m. The cause of death is still being investigated. Hokkaido police stated that their actions were “appropriate.”
