So I lost my Rakuten SIM card. They said they can send me a replacement, but it has to go to my registered address. The problem is, my address is outdated, and to update it they require SMS verification… which I obviously can’t do without the SIM.
Same issue with logging into my Rakuten account; they want to send me a verification text that I can’t receive. Classic catch-22.
Has anyone been in this situation before? Is there a workaround, or am I basically forced to trek out to a Rakuten store (the nearest one’s not exactly close)?

Go to a store with a juminhyo and ask them for a new sim. What else can you possibly do?
make an appointment with their stores that offer sim reissue ( not all stores do this)
[go to this link](https://network.mobile.rakuten.co.jp/shop/#before)
you’ll see something like
現在地・キーワードから探す
対応サービス・店舗条件で絞り込む
click on that then check
SIMタイプ変更/再発行.
then on the map choose a store that’s near to you and make an appointment and go.
Welcome to Japan, where every system works extremely cleverly and efficiently until there is .05 degrees of deviation from the script, at which point all hell breaks loose, people stare at you like you’re regarded, and eventually after great personal expense and lost time, absolutely nothing gets resolved.
