
Around 6:30 p.m. on August 1, a 75-year-old man from Kizugawa City, Kyoto Prefecture, collapsed and went into cardiac arrest while hiking on the Yoshida Trail on the Yamanashi side of Mt. Fuji, near the 7th station. He was part of a guided tour group.
The man was taken to a hospital in nearby Fujiyoshida City, but was pronounced dead.
According to local police, this is the first reported death on the Yamanashi-side trails of Mt. Fuji this climbing season. The group had started from the 5th station around 4:40 p.m. and was aiming to reach a mountain hut at the 7th station.
