Luggage forwarding question

Part of my trip goes like:

Kobe->Arima Onsen stay 2 nights -> Osaka
I want to forward my luggage from Kobe to Osaka while I go to Arima first before heading to Osaka.

Is it OK to send my luggage too early? What happens if my luggage gets to the receiving hotel a day or two earlier? Is there any way to make it get there on a specific later date?

  1. You can specify the date for luggage delivery (I think up to 7 days?). I have done something similar to what you are planning and it worked out well.

  2. I stuck air tags on my luggages and was able to track them in real time. There were a couple of cases where I had specified a later day and they sat in some holding center until the day I checked in. There were also some times when they just sent my luggage ahead and didn’t delay as I asked and it got to the hotel early. In all cases though, before I sent it, I’d just send the hotel a message to give them a heads up. They always said yes, anyway. Just give them your name and reservation number. Sometimes, the luggage forwarding slip also asks for your hotel reservation number and check in date.

    I filled out the slip in English, but there were also times when the hotel did it for me. Do prepay. I think there’s an option to pay when it’s delivered, but most hotels prefer that you pay when you get your luggage picked up so the front desk doesn’t have to do anything other than accept your bag.

  3. It’s Japan. If you set it up properly and get confirmation it will be done properly. Or heads will roll.

  4. I think, best advice ever. The coolest thing is no idea if it will be the greatest time ever or a complete nightmare. Turn your phone off. Raw dog it and see what happens.,

  5. I already sent my luggage about 5 days before my arrival at the hotel, they accepted it but asked me to mark the name on the reservation and the check-in date, I recommend you contact the hotel and ask if they would receive your luggage before your arrival.
