Hey there! Some of you may remember me from [a post that I made earlier](https://reddit.com/r/LearnJapanese/comments/1n26xdp/does_anyone_else_struggle_with_discouragement) (probably not), but I figured that if my japanese is really that bad then maybe reddit could lend me a hand
For those who didn’t read my post or forgot about it, basically I’ve been spending some time on a server to improve my japanese. The japanese part is only a small section of the broader server though, so in many cases peeps who cannot speak the language come in and start speaking english (and then there are some who can speak some japanese but simply choose not to). To one of the folks in the latter group, i tried saying (1) 日本語向けの部屋なので日本語で話すほうがいいと思います
Moving on now, I ended up having a very simple and brief exchange between another learner and a native, but when I ran out of set phrases and had to face the music of my finnicky Japanese, I said (2) 実は私は日本語を勉強している人なのでよく返事できません
(3) 読む分には問題ないですが話す方法分かりません (ごめん)
basically in an attempt to say: “Since I’m not actually Japanese, I can’t really respond to you well. I can read what you’re saying just fine, but I don’t know what to say or how to say it”
finally, at some point in the convo (multiple peeps were speaking), the topic came to languages in general and they said: 因みに日本人はほとんど英語話せないｗ
I responded (4) 逆に、アメリカはオタクの多い国なので日本語すごいできるようになった人がいます。例えば：Matt vs JapanやDogenなど。
basically “On the contrary, since there are a lot of Otaku in America (I don’t think they say “Weeb” in Japanese, do they?) there are people that become ridiculously good at Japanese, for example: Matt vs Japan and Dogen”
If someone could touch these up for me so I can get good, thank you.
