Need help deciding Aomori and Yamagata!

Hi everyone! I need some recommendations for Fukuoka, Tokyo regions and mainly deciding either Aomori or Yamagata.

I'm traveling early March next year, starting from Fukuoka, to Tokyo (Recommendations are welcome!)

and lastly either Aomori or Yamagata. The goal is to enjoy forest nature hikes, shrines and onsens. It's really hard to decide for myself Based on online resources so I really need your advice haha. I also do not have a car to drive.
