Hi everyone, I'm planning for a 3D2N hiking trip from Kamikochi to Okuhotaka with a group of 4 around 17-19 Sep this year. We are interested in camping at Karasawa Campsite but do not have any equipment/gear. I saw on Karasawa Hutte's website that they have rental tents, and only phone reservation is allowed (https://karasawa-hyutte.com/inn/).
Does anyone have experience with renting a tent or camping gears from them? I want to better understand how the experience is! I have been searching online but couldn't find relevant answers. Most people bring their own tents and equipment.
Questions I have (pardon my amateur questions):
– How is the phone reservation process like? Because we don't speak Japanese so would potentially have to struggle using the translation app to converse on the phone. Or would walk-in be sufficient?
– What kind of camping equipment would be available for rental? On their website they indicated sleeping bags/ mats (I'm hoping that is those for insulation because it can be very cold at night). I am curious if they have lamps/cooking gears/chairs as well. If we want to cook something simple late at night is that an option or should we bring our own gears)
– From images it seems like the tents are pitched on the rocks, and they have plywood for rental to be placed at the base of the tent but these plywood are limited. Are the rental tents fixed tents that have already been pitched and already come with plywood?
Any form of help or other recommendations (e.g. own gears to bring to reduce cost of rental/ other campsites choices) will be much appreciated! Thank you 🙂
