Sony Bank will now no longer give grace period for renewals

Quoting from email

'Effective October 13, 2025, you will be required to submit your renewed residence card before the expiration of your current residence card which you have submitted to Sony Bank. If we are unable to confirm your renewed residence card by the submission due date, all or some transactions will be restricted from the day after the expiration of your current residence card in accordance with Article 7 of the SONY BANK GENERAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS.'

  1. Well. They need to be reported to immigration authorities or sued. Sometimes the renewal takes too long, Shinagawa is hopelessly slow…

    A looooooot of people are gonna be inconvenienced with this. But it’s only Foreigners so they won’t care till their reputation takes a hit. I thought it was legally mandatory for a 2 month grace period due to the time it takes for renewal a lot of the time.

  2. Why not diversify the management of assets? Convert the bank’s assets into virtual currency?

  3. Do they still count the 2 extra months you get when you renew, while awaiting the new card?
    It would be disappointing if the didn’t.

  4. Meanwhile, my business bank account has never asked to confirm my period of stay. I guess that must be worth millions of yen if sold to the black market because nobody ever bothers to check?
