Kerama Islands in February – can i swim?

I booked a trip for Chinese New Year with my kids – was planning to stay for a few days in Kerama National Park- Zamami island. Is it going to be too cold for a swim? besides whale watching what can i do there? and if i decide to do a tour on the Okinawa island instead of spending a full week in Zamami what do you recommend?
