40-year-old woman dies after throat slashed in Tokyo’s Setagaya

TOKYO – A 40-year-old South Korean woman died after she was found with her throat slashed in Tokyo's Setagaya Ward on Monday afternoon, and a fellow countryman has been detained in connection with the case, police and an investigative source said.

The police received an emergency call from a bystander around 1:35 p.m. saying that a woman covered in blood had collapsed on a street and a man had fled the scene. She was taken to a hospital unconscious and was later pronounced dead.

The Tokyo police detained the 30-year-old South Korean man at Tokyo's Haneda airport after searching for him on suspicion of murder, according to the source.

The self-employed woman had visited a building near the scene for work, the source said.

The woman told the police in Tokyo late last month she was having problems with her boyfriend, a South Korean national visiting Japan, and was trying to break up with him.

The scene is a residential neighborhood around 500 meters northeast of Komazawa University Station on the Tokyu Den-en-toshi Line.

  7. This was near our place. Until the (probable) perpetrator was caught, the public school our child goes to was going to allow kids to not come to school today and not be counted absent.

  12. Thankfully murder is relatively rare in Japan. Even rarer to be murdered by a complete stranger.

    Unfortunately, in Japan, just like every other country in the world, women are often the targets of violence from those they have dated or married, and asking for help from the police is pretty much ineffective

  15. Sad case it seems, known to police of course who did nothing until its too late. A stabbing in broad daylight, less than fifty meters from one of the biggest roads in the country is mindboggling. Hope they throw the book at this guy and there’s no funny business with his home country.

  17. It’s horrible how she already went to the police before and yet this femicide could not be avoided.. Not just in Japan, so often there was already a record of some sort regarding the suspect or in case of a stranger some previous report of an attack from another victim and yet femicide keeps happening. Does the report just sit on the desk until the worst scenario happens? Breaks my heart to read so many stories like this in and outside of Japan. Rest in peace..

  19. And last week there was a incident in kobe where a guy stalked multiple women and then chose 1 to murder to death. Kinda fuck up
