In Osaka’s Kita district, police conducted a crackdown on women waiting for clients on the street for the purpose of prostitution.
Reporter: “It’s past 6 PM. The suspects are being brought in by two officers, walking quickly with their faces covered.”
On the 29th, a 19-year-old woman was arrested in the entertainment district of Osaka for violating anti-prostitution laws. About two hours later, a 23-year-old unemployed woman was also taken by the police.
In this sweep on the 29th, police arrested five women, aged 19 to 23, on suspicion of soliciting clients on the street for prostitution.
According to the police, all five women admitted to the charges. One woman mentioned that she was doing this to contribute to the sales of her host partner she lived with and reportedly earned around 15 million yen over the past year.
Other women cited reasons like paying for idol group concert tickets and dental braces.
This particular street has been known for persistent acts of soliciting for prostitution. In December last year, police and local authorities attempted to deter such activities by painting the road yellow, utilizing the “psychology of avoiding conspicuous places.”
While there was some effect initially, activities believed to be client solicitation started increasing again around June. The police have stated they will intensify their patrols in response.

Follow the yellow brick road!
The government should make cosmetic dental procedures eligible for national health insurance coverage to stop the nation’s young women selling their bodies.
15 million Yen is pretty mediocre money for a sex worker.
15 million yen???? Wow
I feel like “Going down to Osaka to meet a girl and get my teeth straightened” is a euphemism.
Women gave money to male host, those male host gave money to female host club or pachinko or even horse race betting, a circle of misery
