A 31-year-old intern at the National Defense Medical College Hospital was arrested after allegedly touching a woman on the street and injuring her. He denied the charges, saying he only touched her lightly and did not commit any indecent acts

A resident doctor at the National Defense Medical College Hospital has been arrested on suspicion of committing an indecent act and injuring a woman he didn’t know.

Tomohiro Yamanishi, a 31-year-old trainee doctor at the hospital and a first lieutenant in the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force, allegedly touched a woman on her way home on the street in Higashimurayama City early on July 6. The woman fell in shock, sustaining a knee injury that required two weeks to heal.

In police questioning, Yamanishi has partially denied the charges, stating that he “only slightly touched her” and did not commit an indecent act.

Mishuku Camp, where Yamanishi is stationed, commented, “It is truly regrettable that a member has been arrested. We will respond strictly based on the facts that are established.”
