On the 30th, Justice Minister Suzuki met with Turkish Ambassador to Japan Ertuğrul to discuss the treatment of foreign residents in Japan. The minister conveyed serious concerns about the significantly higher number of illegal overstayers from Turkey compared to other countries and requested cooperation in improving the situation.
At the beginning of the meeting, held at the Ministry of Justice, Justice Minister Suzuki stated, "Japan and Turkey have a long-standing friendly relationship. I am grateful for the recent significant increase in personal exchanges between our countries."
However, the minister also informed the ambassador of the Japanese government's policy to deal strictly with issues like illegal overstays by foreign nationals, as public anxiety about these issues is growing in Japan.
Following this, Minister Suzuki expressed grave concern about the disproportionately high number of Turkish nationals illegally overstaying in Japan compared to other nationalities and sought the ambassador's cooperation in rectifying the situation.
In response, Ambassador Ertuğrul stated that he encourages Turkish citizens residing in or seeking to reside in Japan to "comply with Japanese laws and regulations."
