Applying for a Working Holiday Visa from the UK after a long holiday

Hello, I’m from the UK and I’m looking to get a WHV in Japan. I believe I meet all the criteria but what has got me worried is the requirement to be a “resident” of the UK. I’ve read online of people saying you must PHYSICALLY be in the UK for a certain period before the application.

I’ve been living in the UK for 3 years for uni before this, and my bank statements still go to my old UK address. However, I’ve been on a holiday to Asia since the end of April and plan to return mid September. Since I’ve been away for 4-5 months and my bank statements show foreign spendings, will they reject me on the basis I haven’t been residing in the UK recently??

I got my friend to contact the embassy directly for me and the embassy simply said “there’s a risk of rejection” but I’m unsure why they can’t give a certain answer for my case.

Would providing extra proof like a copy of my Uni certificate or my old UK-based part time job contract from this year be beneficial in giving further proof??

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
