I've lived in Osaka for about ten years, and just around here I've seen monkeys, foxes, weasels, a lot of rats, one raccoon, a couple of snakes, and one nutria.
I never expected to see so much wildlife in/around the city. But also I've known Japanese people who have never seen foxes or weasels, so maybe I'm just lucky.
Still yet to have seen a bear, inoshishi or tanuki – but I'm on the hunt.
