Hi. Im a bit frustrated, I go to a Japanese university and theres a “S” letter grade given to excellent students. However i checked and S = 4 and A = 3, wheras in America, A = 4 (since A is the highest). The problem is, some professors hardly give out S’s and say that. Maybe lets say… to 1 student. Therefore, the maximum letter grade you can get despite doing great (over 90%) would A. But in terms of Japan’s GPA calculation, A will be = 3. So pardon me if this is a dumb question but wouldn’t that set students to a disadvantage? And lower your GPA? On top of that there are professors from both Japan and America and those unfamilar with S might just hand you an A, thinking its A+ or S is reserved for special students. Am i tripping ?? Im worried this is why my GPA fell down so much. I got A’s and B’s this semester, and no S. In america that wouldve been a B and C. Im not sure. Maybe i have it all wrong. I just wanna hear your thoughts.
