I’m considering putting together a simple documentary consisting of interviews of elderly folks in Kyoto (90+ years). The ideal subjects would be born prior to 1936, who are old enough to remember growing up in pre-WWII Japan; who still have vivid, detailed memories of what it was like to live during that time as well as their later years; and who are lucid and talkative enough to tell their stories.
However, I speak very little Japanese, and I’m not sure how to go about contacting willing interviewees. Is anyone interested in participating as an English/Japanese interpreter, and/or can you facilitate finding willing/enthusiastic subjects?
I’m not looking to make money or seek commercial distribution; this would strictly be a labor of love. I’ll do all the video recording, editing, and distribution — e.g., through YouTube (non-monetized) or other free online platform. If necessary, I can compensate interpreters for expenses and provide a nominal fee of some kind, but for me anyway, this a volunteer venture.
