Noisy AC. Landlord “working on it” for months. Any chance I can just move without too many penalties?

Basically since summer started and people have been using their ACs in the building our unit has been making a hammering noise from inside the pipes, and it’s destroying me slowly, like Chinese water torture.

The landlord has sent out contractors on three separate occasions and have concluded that it’s a problem with the building’s piping, and “one other person has also complained about similar issues” (and maybe 20 others are just gaman’ing hard for all I know). Something that requires more than just exchanging a plug or a hose, from the sounds of it.

I’ve tried to politely suggest that they reimburse me for the unusable space (mostly the bedroom, so a 25% reduction in rent seems fair to me), but the landlord has declined to even acknowledge this sentence and continues to “look into it, and please let us know if the noise lessens (so we can avoid doing anything)”.

So I’m considering moving now, as it’s causing me stress and wrecking my sleep. On top of all the other moving costs I’ll incur, I also have to pay a 2 month early termination penalty. Are there any tricks I can pull to reduce this (rather unfair, in my opinion) “penalty” other than begging and pleading?
