Wifi Options For a Year Long Stay

Everyone really likes these pocket wifi, don't they?

General disclaimer I'm a complete noob to all of this, I haven't even managed my sim plan ever in my life, so I am very much a fish out of water in this context.

Recently I moved into my accommodation as a student. The wifi was an extra payment included in the final cost, but I didn't realise it would be pocket wifi, with a pretty decent 50gb a month – same as my mobile plan. Only issue is I'm a fairly heavy device user. I plan to be out and about as much as possible, but there's something still irreplaceable about staying inside from the rain, casually switching from laptop, to ipad, to phone, and back again. The other issue is that I didn't really realise I'd have to… you know, turn it off when I wasn't using it. So I'm only 2-3 days in and yet somehow I've used up 9gb of data already.

At the moment my solution is turning off most of my stuff's wifi connections whenever I'm out or passed out, but I still feel like this won't be that sustainable for a long stay and will significantly reduce the amount of time I can spend playing games and stuff. I'm not sure which things specifically will use a lot of wifi – I'm not even entirely sure what pocket wifi I'm using at the moment – but in my last few years at uni, away from my family, the simple fun of games on my phone managed to wipe away the ever-present homesickness.

Anyways, all that background out of the way, the wifi payment isn't due yet so I was wondering if for my purposes it might be better to find my own wifi solutions instead of the provided one. To reiterate, I have no experience in this area, so I don't even know if it's possible in this rickety old building or if pocket wifi is the only solution. I also don't know if there are other wifis that might serve me better. But if anyone does know, I'd be really grateful to find out.
