10 Best Meals I’ve Had In Kyoto

  1. Heian Den Hon Ten – not even gonna lie, the most mind blowing meal I've had is dessert maybe because I'm a sucker for desserts. This is the most heavenly warabimochi I've had and perfect for a hot summer day. Sweet, chewy, refreshing. The whole restaurant has 3 tables and the menu is completely in Japanese

  2. Takara Sushi – unbelievable hidden gem, a sushi restaurant with only 5 seats ran by Takara-san. There is only one item on the menu and it's 1000 yen. We watched him make the sushi and serve it to us. I've never been a fan of squid sushi but this one was fantastic.

  3. Tempura Endo Yasaka – not a surprise since this is an expensive booked-in-advance multi-course tempura meal with sashimi, salad, ochazuke, and mango sorbet for dessert. Top notch service.

  4. Fukuchan Ramen – right outside of Nijō Castle, simple but delicious

  5. Kyoto Yoshitsugu – I was desperate for shaved ice for days because of the summer heat. The matcha shaved ice is everything I could ask for and more (Outside Nishiki Market)

  6. Tofu Cafe Fujino – a cafe that specifically serves tofu-related desserts. I had an ofufu parfait there. (Near Monster Street)

  7. Okunohidari – deep fried foods on skewers, dessert was interesting (near Kyoto Station)

  8. Yakitori Tsujiya – can't go wrong with yakitori (near Kyoto Station)

  9. Yakiniku Yaruki – almost threw up from eating so much meat

  10. Okaru Udon (Gion) – never had curry cold, it was interesting, but I was desperate for cold udon at the time
