Hey folks, I’ve been working on something from Kyoto that I thought some of you might enjoy.
I moved here a few months ago and have been spending my days wandering around with microphones, trying to capture the everyday sounds of the city — rivers, temple gardens, shōtengai, festivals.
That turned into a podcast project I’m calling Kyoto, in Sound. Each episode starts with me asking someone who lives here about a sound they love. Then I go out, record it, and share their story around why it matters.
The first episode is set in Suzaku Garden, where Rumi takes us back to summers with her grandmother. You’ll hear waterfalls, crows calling overhead, and the trains rushing past on their way to Kyoto Station.
If you’re curious, you can listen here: kyotoinsound.com (also on Spotify/Apple/Fountain.fm etc).
Would love to hear what you think — and if you’ve got a favourite sound, I’d be really interested to know and maybe you'd like to be on a future episode of the podcast?
