Question: Does my workplace need permission to use photos of me at work for their marketing?
When I worked in other countries I was always asked if photos of me could be used (on websites, in brochures etc). Whereas in Japan I just find my face online at current or former job’s websites/SNS/ads etc.
Should they be asking me first? Is it overreacting to ask them not to use photos of me?
(I’m afraid of causing problems and my hours being cut or contract not renewed)
Edit: it’s not mentioned in the contract (since a few people have asked)

Without your written consent, no they can’t just use your photo. Japan has strong privacy/portrait laws.
yes, normally they will hand you a paper that said that they receive your permission to use your photo.
I once appeared in my old company’s TV CM.
It depends on your contract.
If you ask them not to use their photo, they should remove it. Send an email
It probably says something in your contract like ”I agree that X can use my picture for promotional reasons” or whatever. Is this fully legal I don’t know but even if it isn’t to them you already agreed. Check and see if thats the case before starting a fuzz. Unless you don’t mind potentially being treated like garbage
