I'm currently working on a farm full-time in exchange for room and board and therefore have no salary. I just received a letter in the mail, which I am apparently supposed to bring to the shiyakusho along with my zairyu card according to a notice that was in the envelope.
I have private health insurance through my family, so I don't really need the benefits of being in the nenkin system, so the only reason I'd apply for an exemption is so that non-payment potentially doesn't affect a future PR application. However, given that I'm not getting paid, it seems like I'm eligible for an exemption.
Is it bad for future PR applications if I apply for and receive exemption from nenkin payments? How much better/worse is it than just not paying and not doing the paperwork?
(Sorry for the brevity, please ask for details if relevant.)
