Housing insurance for house owners

Starting a thread to share experience on Housing insurance.
Im curious if anyone ever managed to get money from their insurance provider or to contest a decision.
Our house is built on top of a old shop so the total surface is pretty big. We were quotes about 25 000y / month for a basic insurance package.
A few months after we subscribed there was massive snow falls during the winter , and despite a lot of shovelling the weight of the snow broke some beams supporting the roof. The insurance guy came, flew a drone, saw some rusty patchs on the roof ( not situated or related to the issue), and the problem was declared to be "due to old age and natural degradation", the insurance refused to cover the reparation and the case was dismissed.
We asked if there was any way to contest the decision, and were told that no.

Fast forward, a few month, our boiler started to malfunction and leak water ( a lot), before we identified it was coming from the boiler and there was in fact, not water damage anywhere, we were told – again – that since the house was old the chance of the insurance covering the leak was close to 0.

Given that our house is fairly old by JP standards ( buld in the mid 80's), im seriously wondering if it makes any sense to gift 300 000y/year an insurance provider if they wont cover us for anything ? (Yes im being dramatic and assume the risk of fire is worth the money, but have you ever succesfully file a claim ?) Im curious of everyone experience, if you care to share.

Cheers
