I'm 7 months post partum, after giving birth in Japan, and have only gotten my initial 6-week payment for maternity leave; I have received no child leave benefits past those first 6 weeks. Thanks to that new 4-month processing time.
After giving birth, my passport was going to expire, so I decided to change my name on my American passport with the use of my Japanese marriage license. (get that one free name change) No problems, then I went on to change everything else. Residence card, bank, My Number, work insurance, etc (to the alphabet version of my husband's name, as it was now also my legal name in the US)
I tried to go in around a month ago to city hall to change my name on my husband's Koseki and other city hall documents, but they said they couldn't unless they had documents proving my names were both connected to me. (My passports and residence cards, I guess, are not enough?) But the staff made it seem that its okay that it's my maiden name, and can get information from the embassy if I wanted to, but my old name on there is just fine.
won't
Fast forward today- the new system from child care leave wont give me my next payouts unless my name is updated on EVERYTHING. Meaning I need some document from the Embassy saying these are, in fact, my maiden and married names to submit to the city hall.
Can anyone point me in the right direction for what paperwork I need from my embassy?
Signed a broke ass mom just trying to get her money.
