“It’s like being in an anime world,” exclaimed visitors to Japan! Visitors can attend “Kimi no Koukou” school to experience attending a Japanese school

In Kimitsu City, Chiba Prefecture, a unique program called “Kimi no Koko” offers international tourists the chance to experience a Japanese school day, leading visitors to describe the experience as stepping into an anime. The initiative, which has gained traction since last year, operates in a former school building and includes activities like homeroom, cleaning duties, and even a graduation ceremony.

The program is managed by Undokaiya, a company specializing in organizing events like sports days. They repurposed the former Kameyama Junior High School building for this immersive experience. Initially, it struggled to attract tourists, but gained popularity after being promoted by influencers and media coverage.

Kimi no Koko not only serves as a nostalgic school experience but also highlights Japan’s renowned hospitality. The staff meticulously prepares for the students, ensuring elements like indoor slippers fit correctly and dietary needs, including vegetarian and halal options, are catered to.

Participants range from short-term exchange students to professionals, and they fully engage with the program despite language barriers. The program uses professional actors to enhance the authenticity of the experience, including teaching roles and classmate guides.

Kimi no Koko aims to create warm interactions between visitors and the local community, with plans to involve locals to teach traditional Japanese pastimes. As the day concluded with a graduation-like ceremony, the positive impact of this cultural exchange was evident as students departed with smiles and meaningful memories.
