Kyoto – How far is too far from the station?

Hi,

Currently scheduled to stay at a hotel that is about an 8 minute walk to Kyoto station. The reviews seem fairly mixed about the location, some seem to love it, other seem to hate it. Kyoto seems like a challenging place location wise due to it being spread, but this seems relatively close to things.

Can someone with more experience give their thoughts?
