Hi All! We're moving to Japan in early 2026 and are working through all the administration, registration and visa documents. My partner (Japanese) has a secured job and I'm in the works with one. Visas not a problem, residency in process for partner (who has been out of Japan for 20+ years). We own a house in my home country and may rent or buy in Tokyo, but TBD. Plan to relocate for ~3 years with one child. In the JapanFinance reddit I read about remitting fees (i.e. to cover expenses for first weeks/months before pay is flowing/banks set up) for the first time… which makes me realize I need to do some more reading…. as it was not something I'd considered…
What resources or sites do folks recommend?
And, are there any top tips or pitfalls we need to watchout for? (regarding residency, housing, setting up banks, finances between two countries etc)
