A fire has broken out on the U.S. Navy ship “New Orleans” off the coast of Uruma City, Okinawa. Japan Self-Defense Forces and Japan Coast Guard vessels are engaged in firefighting efforts.

According to the Coast Guard, a fire broke out on a U.S. Navy vessel around 5:00 PM on the 20th, off the coast of the U.S. military's "White Beach" port in Uruma City, Okinawa. A report was received requesting firefighting assistance, and the Japan Coast Guard has dispatched patrol boats to the scene. There have been no reports of injuries so far.

The Nakagusuku Coast Guard Office in Okinawa Prefecture stated that they received a report from the emergency command center at Camp Zukeran, saying, "A fire has broken out on a U.S. vessel off White Beach. Crew members are currently fighting the fire, but we are requesting firefighting assistance from the Japan Coast Guard."

The fire occurred on the USS New Orleans, a U.S. Navy vessel over 200 meters long. As of now, there are no reports of injuries.

In addition to vessels from the Japan Self-Defense Forces assisting with firefighting, the Japan Coast Guard has also dispatched patrol boats to the site.

According to a Coast Guard official, smoke was seen rising from the bow of the ship, but there has been no request to evacuate the crew members so far.
