In a startling development, authorities in the Philippines have arrested two brothers in connection with the fatal shooting of two Japanese tourists in Manila. One of the suspects told police that a Japanese accomplice living in Japan hired them to carry out the killings over a financial dispute.
The two suspects, brothers aged 62 and 50, are both Filipino nationals. The older brother, who worked as a tour guide for the two victims, reportedly confessed to arranging the murder, while his younger brother is believed to be the shooter. The victims, two men aged 53 and 41, were tourists visiting the city.
According to authorities, the older brother was offered 9 million pesos (about 23 million yen) for the murders and received an advance payment of 10,000 pesos (about 26,000 yen). He told investigators that he had previously worked as a driver for the Japanese ringleader.
The brazen killings are the latest in a series of robberies and attacks targeting Japanese nationals in the Manila metropolitan area since last October. Local police are continuing their investigation.
