Shimokitazawa is already 75% tourist these days, not putting a coin in the machine lol
Curry spice gelateria kalpasi.
Get 3 different curries then 2 gelato flavors afterwards. Perfect lunch.
Please, for the love of god, not more tourists. The hordes of TikTok and instagram idiots have already ruined the entire neighborhood. Let’s not invite redditors. As someone who’s lived in this area for over a decade and loves the little Shimokita/Sancha/Yutenji community, the last years have been miserable.
Delicious curry ramen at Ten to Sen.

There’s an awesome beer festival in the area next week. Please come and drink some suds.

Coasters is my go to spot. Awesome smash burgers, cool staff and tasty craft beers.
Good Heavens for when I’m missing that authentic British food – decent Sunday Roast.
Ten to Sen for curry noodle soup & ramen.
Tepito and Kitade for Mexican.
Kappa-ism for Japanese curry.
Went to Cultural Coffee House recently & it was surprisingly good.
Sanzou curry.
下北SABA食堂 佐助酒場 – if you like Saba this is the place to go to
Hakko Department for great, but more unqiue styles of Nihonshu and all manner of fermented foods. It’s at the top near Shimokita Daita Station.
Love Shimo Kita. Place is great. Love all the craft beer spots. Love the matsuri’s and all that as well. Also there are some awesome spots off the beaten path.
I’m furiously taking notes because I live close by but I rarely eat there due to being overwhelmed by choice.
