16-year-old boy organizes “birthday touring” with 57 people suspected of repeatedly driving recklessly… “I thought we wouldn’t get caught if we have many bikes”

The Chiba Prefectural Police have charged 57 teenagers, aged 14 to 19 at the time, with violations of traffic laws, including dangerous driving and unlicensed operation, and have sent their cases to the Chiba District Public Prosecutors Office. The charges arise from incidents that occurred in June of last year, and the individuals were charged between June 5 and October 18.

According to the police, these teens rode 37 motorcycles and other vehicles, engaging in reckless driving, such as weaving and running red lights, on a prefectural road in Chiba City’s Mihama Ward. They allegedly believed that with so many vehicles, they could evade police capture.

The main organizer, a 16-year-old interior worker from Ichikawa City, reportedly invited friends to join what he called a “birthday touring” event via social media about a week prior to the incident, in celebration of his birthday.
