A Question for the Grillers of Japan

Dear Grillers on Japan Life,

I recently went to a nice house in the country that had a Weber Kettle. It was so much fun to learn how to use it and make ribs and burgers. With the use of online meat ordering, I can see myself really getting into grilling at home.

I own a detached house in a relatively dense area, although nothing like Tokyo. I have two small, grassed areas and a two-car driveway. I would love to get a Weber Kettle at home, but I am slightly worried about the smoke. Our neighbours don’t often have their windows open or their clothes out, and seem relatively chill, but I really don’t want to become the pariah of the block.

Alternatively, Weber also makes gas grills, but I have no idea where to buy propane or how to dispose of propane. And, while “taste the meat, not the heat” is amusing, I would rather than charcoal.

What sort of grill setups do you have at home? Can you share any advice on the matter?

Thank you,
