Agriculture Minister Koizumi announced an extension of the deadline for selling reserve rice under discretionary contracts, which was initially set for the end of the month.
Minister Koizumi explained, “Considering the delays in delivery, it is the Ministry of Agriculture’s responsibility to respond to these concerns and ensure that the contracted quantities are distributed as promised. We will extend the deadline for those who wish to continue selling and receiving the rice.”
Of the approximately 280,000 tons of reserve rice, around 100,000 tons have not been distributed due to delays in tasks like shipping and milling.
As retailers and other businesses are eager to receive and sell the rice, Minister Koizumi revealed plans to push back the initial deadline. He expressed the hope that efforts would be made to sell the rice within a month.
