I vacuum sealed a bamboo sushi mat. It’s completely waterproof. It took a couple tried to get used to the different surface texture, but it really works.
For anyone wanting to try this, I used a food saver bag. A chamber vacuum sealer won’t work. When using a food saver, make sure you press seal before the bag is fully vacuum’d. If you do’nt the bamboo dowels wil shrink together and you won’t be able to roll it. That’s why a chamber vacuum sealer won’t work
Does the hasegawa work well?
I’m curious how it would compare
Sushi Guy here, the main product one should think hasegawa is definitely the cutting board. Their roller mat is nice, but the price isn’t worth it (whereas the cutting board absolutely is)

Wouldn’t a [silicone mat](https://i.imgur.com/ldTa6tW.jpeg) be simpler?
