First time going to Japan, Going to Hokkaido, whats there to do?

So my family decided to go to Japan for two weeks. They're going to Tokyo first then Hokkaido, but since I can only take a week off, I could only join them in Hokkaido. I have absolutely no idea what is there. It's my first time going to Japan and I will admit, I only know places like Tokyo, and Osaka, so I have no idea whats there in Hokkaido. any tips advice or anything? I'm sure my family has plans but I might want to go my own way for some of the days.
