What is the likely scenario here?

I realized I forgot to include a preexisting condition on my medical-self-report sheet. I was recently shortlisted, and I sent an email correcting the issue. I haven't been treated for the condition since I was a minor (quite a few years ago) and the lapse in time since I was diagnosed caused me to totally forget about it 🙁 How do you think JET will respond here? Its a super common condition and unlikely to affect my ability to be successful. I am also cured in the sense that I haven't been treated for nearly 10 years.

  1. Won’t affect your participation.

This happened to me actually, they might ask you to go back to the doctor and get them to sign off on that new condition. (They asked me to redo the form). So book an appointment with your gp (if there’s a wait) while you wait for a reply from JET.

  2. Are you actively taking medication for the condition?

If it won’t affect your work ability and you don’t need to follow up with a doctor frequently, it’s okay not to disclose. Just ask for your boe / spv to locate the specialty clinic you need nearby, so you know where to go if something happens.

  3. Totes could’ve just ignored it, you forgot about it anyway so must not affect your ability to be an ALT much.

  4. Realistically, you probably could have just ignored it and no one would have known otherwise, but like others have said, you will likely just need to fill out a new form. SOMETIMES the consulate might ask that you write a note (which they will forward to Tokyo) explaining your “failure” to disclose, but it’s usually not a problem.

  5. You are screwed. The private investigators JET hires will definitely track down this info by coming through your records and when they report you not only will you be banned from the JET program for all eternity but they will also send ninja’s to track you down and do unspeakable things to you as retribution for your terrible crime.

    Or nothing will happen.

I’d say its about 50/50, maybe 60/40 in favor of nothing if you are lucky and the chief investigator has just enjoyed a nice relaxing onsen bath and is feeling generous.

But seriously nothing. As long as it doesn’t impact your ability to do the job it doesn’t really matter.

If you want to ease your mind you could let them know you forgot it and ask if they want you to update your health form. They might ask you to go to a clinic and have the doctor sign a note saying you are still ok to participate (a minor hassle) or just not to worry about it.

BTW I’m guessing its asthma since that a very common condition people sometimes grow out of, how’d I do?
