Video: Japan’s Okinawa could become a US-China Battlefield

Japan hosts more U.S. military personnel than any other country. Over 70% of land occupied by U.S. bases in Japan is concentrated in Okinawa, a prefecture that makes up less than 1% of Japan’s land area. As Japan reinterprets its pacifist constitution and rapidly builds up its defense capabilities, Okinawa has become the nation’s strategic frontline.

Meanwhile, tensions continue to mount over nearby Taiwan and growing Chinese naval activity beyond the first island chain. Now, Okinawa stands at the crossroads of superpower rivalry. How will this shape the island’s own evolving push for more autonomy?

  1. Well, the push for autonomy is coming from China, paid protesters and NGOs. Pretty standard for global players aiming to de-stabilize certain areas for one’s own benefit.

  2. I know i am Aussie now in paper but if this ever happens im going to Okinawa and defend my homeland like a motherfuck

  3. Okinawa beautiful place, just back from my honeymoon there…..can’t these tyrants just get in a ring and punch it out there without our involvement.

  4. and then people wonder why okinawans want the us military to get out. as if the nonstop abuses and humiliations the natives have to suffer isn’t enough, on top of that the island becomes a prime ww3 target.

  5. The largest Air Force base outside the continental US is located there (Kadena AFB). An entire division of US Marines is stationed there. The Army has its main communications hub there as well as the 1st Ann of the Green Beret.

Why would you think Okinawa would not be a target if a conflict arose?
