  1. My feedback would be: Don’t 😀

Of course I don’t know your personal circumstance, maybe you need to go there and just want to make the best of it, but I just don’t think it’s worth going to Fukuoka for two days. The point of going is to use it for exploring the rest of Kyushu. Anything you’re planning to do in Fukuoka you can do better in other cities (shopping, eating, seeing temples). And there are more interesting places in Kyushu for two days, I wrote a guide about it.

  2. I don’t think the first train heading towards Nanzo-in leaves Hakata until about 6am, I could be wrong. Is there really enough to spend several hours there before you can get into Nanzo-in? it’s been a while since I went but I don’t recall there being a ton else in the area.

  3. I can’t remember there being any shrines near Nanzoin temple. There are a range of small shrines in the grounds of the temple, but they won’t take 4 hours to visit – maybe 1 hour at most.

There are lots of temples in central Fukuoka that are more interesting than Nanzoin and easier to visit. Note that you need to allocate about an hour for travel each way as the train line isn’t very frequent.

Fukuoka is well worth visiting, but I’d suggest focusing on the city given you have very little time. Another day or two would allow you to enjoy the city.

  4. But why, though? It’s just two days. How much could you possibly fit in or miss out on?
