Tips for simple Men’s Haircut in Kyoto?

Hey all, I've been living in Kyoto for a little over a year now so I'm relatively familiar with the city. I'm looking for a place to get a haircut ideally with someone who can understand English/can accommodate foreigners. I've been practicing Japanese for a long time but I still struggle to express things clearly especially when it comes to things like what I want for a haircut. I always get a rather simple haircut – just cut the sides down to about 3/4 of the current length and leave the top slightly longer. I'm not picky because I prefer to style it myself. The last two times I went to QB House at the Aeon Mall near Kyoto Station (because cheap is totally fine for me), but it was a really awkward and difficult interaction each time. They insisted that I show a picture of the style I want, but in my previous experience getting a haircut in the US this was never an issue, I would basically just tell them the same thing and it was no problem.

I eventually got through to them that I would style it myself and to not worry about that, but each time, I wasn't really happy with the results. It's probably because I'm not specific enough with what I want. It's probably about time I start to get better quality haircuts but I don't know where to start with all that. If anyone has any particular recommendations I would much appreciate it so I can clean up this greasy mop that's on my head right now. I'd even be willing to go to Osaka if need be, in the case that there's better options there. Thanks.
