REJECTION:
I was interviewing with a major company in Japan for past 4 months, it started in late May and I went through 6 rounds of interviews including final HR round and discussed salary as well. My last interview was on 15th July and then they kept me waiting for more than 2 months to "provide" details of COE, visa and everything (since I had applied from abroad).
Last week, they mailed me that the position has been closed due a "headcount adjustment" and that they are very sorry. I was devastated (I still am). The past 4 months I had invested all of my time and energy into them, and even rejected another offer. I never thought they would do me dirty like this. They apologized profusely and told me that when this position opens up again, they'd give me first priority, but that's a BIG NOTHING!
NEW PLAN:
Now, for most of the roles that I am applying for have 2 requirements (which are causing issue):
- Resident in Japan (80% of jobs)
- Business Level Japanese (50% of jobs)
I work in IT, so although I match the skillsets, It is getting difficult for me to apply from abroad because of the resident issue as most company don't sponsor overseas employees.
Fortunately, my wife will go to Japan next year for Post Doctoral studies, so I can go with her on dependent visa (my wife is not Japanese).
If I get a dependent visa, that means I will get a resident card. So, this will help me to apply in many Japanese companies. If I get an IT job in Japan, I will have to change my visa type. So the company has to do all the COE process.
MY QUESTIONS:
- Is the "visa change COE process" easier for the company compared to COE for a candidate applying from abroad? E.g. Here, they have mentioned "Apply from Japan Only" (No visa sponsorship from overseas)
- Does my plan look doable? Do you have other suggestions?
NOTE:
I am JLPT N4 and by next year-end planning to become N2. My wife and I have already decided to move to Japan and spend our life there. We have been to Japan multiple times and loved it each time.
