Police announced on the 26th that the body of a woman’s eldest daughter, found in a home freezer hidden in a freezer for 20 years, showed signs of asphyxiation due to neck compression. The mother, Keiko Mori, 75, was arrested on suspicion of abandoning a corpse. The mother admitted that there were troubles in the family at the time of her daughter's death.
The autopsy revealed signs of strangulation and wounds on the top and left side of the head that appeared to have been caused by a blunt object. Based on the level of decomposition, police believe several days to weeks passed after death before the body was placed in the freezer.
Twenty years ago, Mori lived with her husband and mother-in-law and her eldest daughter, who was around 30 years old, lived elsewhere. Mother-in-law passed away several years ago and her husband passed away this month leaving Mori to live alone. The incident came to light on the 23rd when Mori visited Ushiku Police Station with relatives and confessed to having her daughter in a freezer.
