Intracompany transfer to Japan while keeping same job/role

So I work for a large US based multinational tech company in the US currently. We have offices all over the world including Japan (Nagoya, Tokyo, Osaka). My job is fully remote, and I manage engineers in the US, Europe, and Asia. I plan on reaching out to my HR about doing this, but just wanted to see if anyone has ever done an Intracompany transfer to their company's Japan branch? If so, how did you go about doing it? Did you keep your same role or apply for an entirely new position? Thanks!
